Tomorrowland’s Britt Robertson Joins Eddie Murphy For Cook

Britt Robertson's slate for 2015 is filling up rather quickly. The 24-year old actress has already signed on for Nicholas Sparks drama The Longest Ride, while also making time for the lead role in Brad Bird's ambitious sci-fi film, Tomorrowland. Today, though, Deadline has learned that Robertson has added another project to the list: a leading role in Bruce Beresford's drama Cook alongside Eddie Murphy.

Britt Robertson’s slate for 2015 is filling up thick and fast. The 24-year old actress has already signed on for Nicholas Sparks drama The Longest Ride, while also making time for the lead role in Brad Bird’s ambitious sci-fi film, Tomorrowland. Today, though, Deadline has learned that Robertson has added another project to the list: a leading role in Bruce Beresford’s drama Cook alongside Eddie Murphy.

In essence, the plot for Beresford’s film centers around Murphy’s titular Henry Church, an everyday yet artistic chief who agrees to provide meals to the family of a dying father. Over the course of fifteen years, Murphy’s character becomes an integral part in the lives of Marie and Charlotte Brody (Beresford), and, judging by the description, becomes a surrogate father of sorts to the Brodys.

As we alluded to earlier, Cook will be directed by Driving Miss Daisy helmer Bruce Beresford with a script from Susan McMartin. Speaking with Empire, the film’s producer Mark Canton touched upon the heart of the script, one which he believes strikes a balance between an emotionally focused story and a character-driven drama.

“It’s a great screenplay. It’s a small story – a true story – of a family and a guy who comes into their lives. You have to come up with either really great big franchise driven movies or little character driven movies. Those are the two businesses to be in. I’m in both. You don’t like to be caught in the middle.”

Cook will begin shooting later this month in Los Angeles, with Britt Robertson and Eddie Murphy both on board for Beresford’s drama. In the meantime, you can share you early impressions of the project down below.
