The Graysons May Be Flying Their Way To Gotham This Season

We've seen quite a few future Batman baddies make their way to Gotham so far this season, from mob-based foes like Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, and Oswald Cobblepot, to the more street-level villains like Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Victor Zsasz, Hush, and even an early iteration of Black Mask. More are on the way, of course, including Harvey Dent, Scarecrow, and Mr. Freeze. What the show lacks so far, however, are glimpses at future Batman allies, which may be about to change.

We’ve seen quite a few future Batman baddies make their way to Gotham so far this season, from mob-based foes like Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, and Oswald Cobblepot, to the more street-level villains like Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Victor Zsasz, Hush, and even an early iteration of Black Mask. More are on the way, of course, including Harvey Dent, Scarecrow, and Mr. Freeze. What the show lacks so far, however, are glimpses at future Batman allies, which may be about to change.

Series star Ben McKenzie, who plays Detective Jim Gordon, recently spoke with The Daily Beast, and when asked about what new characters may be coming to Gotham, said the following:

“The Graysons may appear this season. I’m not 100 percent sure yet, but I think so.”

He’s referring, of course, to the family of Dick Grayson, the future Robin. Dick’s origin story strongly parallels that of Bruce Wayne’s; he comes from a family of circus performers who fall to their deaths during a trapeze act that was sabotaged by gangsters. Now an orphan, Dick is taken in by Bruce Wayne, who eventually trains him to become the Boy Wonder.

While there’s little chance an early version of young Dick Grayson will show up on Gotham (he’s supposed to be about 15 years younger than Bruce), I can easily see how the series could introduce the rest of the Grayson family. The “Flying Graysons” are employed by Haley’s Circus, which could be touring through the city. That very circus has ties to Gotham’s fabled Court of Owls – a secret society introduced in the New 52 – that has been rumored to factor into the show in some capacity.

However they’re introduced, I think there’s definitely room for the Flying Graysons on Gotham, provided that the writers and showrunners play their cards right and utilize a bit of subtlety.

Gotham airs on Monday nights on Fox. Would you like to see the Graysons make an appearance? Sound off below!
