Joe And Anthony Russo Are Likely Candidates To Replace Joss Whedon For Avengers: Infinity War

Since Joe and Anthony Russo took control of Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Marvel with aplomb, the directing duo have become hot favorites to take Joss Whedon's place once the filmmaker steps down after next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron. As such, this would put the Russo brothers in the director's chair (or chairs) for the studio's much-anticipated ensemble piece, Avengers: Infinity War.

Since Joe and Anthony Russo took control of Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Marvel with aplomb, the directing duo have become hot favorites to take Joss Whedon’s place once the filmmaker steps down after next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. As such, this would put the Russo brothers in the director’s chair (or chairs) for the studio’s much-anticipated ensemble piece, Avengers: Infinity War.

That’s according to a report published by Deadline, who recently revealed that Rush‘s Daniel Bruhl has signed on to star in the pair’s upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Here’s what the outlet had to share on the matter.

“The Russo are building up their Marvel cred with this all-star outing, and I keep hearing they will step up to the ultimate Marvel all-star team and take the reins of The Avengers franchise from Joss Whedon, possibly with that next film that will shoot back to back.”

It’s worth noting that this is yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel, and it’s unlikely the studio will reveal too much information anytime soon considering that Avengers: Infinity War is still a full four years away.

Still, Joe and Anthony Russo certainly make for worthy candidates for the two-part gig. Given the reception of The Winter Soldier earlier this year, the pair have now been handed the reins of what is arguably the biggest and most influential film in the MCU to date: Captain America Civil War. Much more than just another sequel, Cap’s latest outing will also star Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, a confrontation that will have a huge impact on the studio’s roster moving into Phase Three.

We’ll keep you up to date with all the news relating to Joe and Anthony Russo and their alleged involvement in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. Whatever the outcome, we know that each instalment will hit theaters on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 respectively.
