The good ole ‘limited series’ is in the middle of its heyday, delivering succinct chunks of prime television programming without the unnecessary fluff needed for your typical 22-episode run. Nope, the limited series, that’s basically a fancy new term for miniseries, looks set to continue dominating small screens well into 2015 with the arrival of Big Little Lies.
The script is currently being penned by Ally McBeal‘s David E. Kelley, and A-listers Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon have now signed on to star. An adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s New York Times best-seller, the show will revolve around a group of parents who attend a seemingly-innocent fundraiser at a primary school that turns into a murder-mystery.
The lure of the book appealed to Kidman and Witherspoon back in August when the two actresses optioned the rights to the novel, in the hopes of transforming it into a full-length feature. Now it’s set up on the small screen, the pair will executive produce before touting it to potential buyers in the coming weeks.
