After dissecting each and every frame of Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ maiden, 88-second teaser, we’re already waiting with bated breath to see more from J.J. Abrams’ upcoming reboot. We’re still a ways away from the film’s actual release, so of course, the next best thing is a new trailer for the space-faring adventure, which will reportedly debut alongside Avengers: Age of Ultron in May.
Of course, if this proves to be true, it’s really a no-brainer for Disney. Looking at the studio’s schedule for 2015 and it’s clear that, The Force Awakens notwithstanding, Age of Ultron is the biggest tentpole release by quite a margin. So, combine that with the May 4 weekend — widely celebrated as Star Wars day amongst the ever-passionate fanbase — and you have an opportune time to debut a new and (hopefully) full-length trailer.
Besides, there are still plenty of unanswered questions surrounding Star Wars: The Force Awakens at this early stage that have led to rampant online speculation — and that speculation is likely to continue unabated right up until the release of another trailer. Going off of last week’s brief tease, we know that John Boyega will play a wayward Stormtropper in the film who finds himself separated from the rest of the Empire’s soldiers, whereas Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac are introduced in a desert, Tatooine-like setting and aboard an X-Wing fighter, respectively.
Now that some of the new recruits have already been ushered into the limelight, it seems safe to assume that the next trailer for The Force Awakens will, at the very least, showcase the film’s returning cast members and hint at how Han, Luke and Lea will fit into Abrams’ rebooted universe — after all, Episode VII will take place a full thirty years after the events of Return of the Jedi.
If this report proves to be accurate, then there are only 165 days between now and the release of a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But the real question remains: how many times can you watch the original teaser in the interim? After all, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the clip was accumulated 40 million views in just 72 hours — outpacing Fifty Shades of Grey within the same period of time. The Force has awoken indeed.
