The second season of HBO’s biggest hit of the year, True Detective, continues to assemble a brilliant cast. Talks concerning the lead roles dragged out for what seemed like months, before its topliners were recently confirmed. Between the showier parts, of course, there’s the meaty supporting roles – and now we’ve news of another name joining the ranks.
Former Dexter quirkster, C.S. Lee has now joined the impressive ensemble. Putting behind the smart-mouthed retorts of the fan favourite, Masuka, Lee will be kitted out in the finest togs to play straight-laced Richard Geldof. Per THR, Geldof is “a state attorney general with grand political ambitions. Described as smooth and polished, the character is well-spoken and intelligent, with an unmoored moral compass.”
One of the hottest TV seasons ever anticipated, True Detective‘s sophomore stream of episodes are currently in production in Los Angeles. Creator Nic Pizzolatto is back at the keys tapping out the eight hour-length eps, which will centre “on three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.” Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch have been cast as the three officers, with Vince Vaughn set to play the career criminal.
For this latest production stint, Pizzolatto and HBO have opted to select multiple directors for the episodes instead of just one helmer. Cary Fukunaga, who directed the entirety of season one, has departed the project, and thus far all we know is that Justin Lin will be in the director’s chair for the first two episodes. This tactic is said to ensure a speedier production as the first season took longer than expected to shoot.
With that in mind, we’ve still not heard of a release date for True Detective‘s season two. But, with production in full swing and the cast roster expanding on a weekly basis, we might be in for a set photo in the coming weeks.
