A 63-year-old Georgia man has been taken into custody following a violent confrontation that allegedly resulted in the deaths of his wife and adult daughter. Ralph Mincey is currently facing two counts of murder and a weapons possession charge after the incident at his home on Gauntt Road in Oxford.
According to News 4 San Antonio, the shooting occurred in a small town located approximately 40 miles southeast of Atlanta. Deputies arriving at the scene discovered 37-year-old Amanda Mincey McBrayer dead, while 57-year-old Jennifer Lynn Mincey was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later passed away. Walton County Sheriff Keith Brooks addressed the tragedy in a press release, stating, “We are saddened by this senseless loss of life.”
The situation appears to have escalated from a domestic dispute regarding the care of Mincey’s mother. As reported by the NY Post, Mincey allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that the conflict began when his wife suggested to their daughter that he was not properly caring for his mother. Mincey claimed he provided care daily before detailing the violence that followed.
Amanda’s husband was the first to call for help
11 Alive highlighted the 911 calls, which were released in the days following the shooting. Adam McGrath, the husband of Amanda McBrayer, provided a harrowing account to dispatchers after fleeing the residence. McGrath told the operator that his wife had been drinking and was upset when he drove her to her parents’ home. He explained that a fight broke out between his wife and her father almost immediately upon their arrival.
During the 911 call, McGrath described the escalation, stating, “My wife was drunk; she was upset; she wanted me to bring her home. So, I brought her to her parent’s house, and then she got into it with her dad, and her dad said, ‘I’ve got a gun; I’ve got a gun. I’m going to pull the f—ing trigger,’ then shot her in the head.
“Then he grabbed his wife by the throat, threw her down, and threatened to kill her too,” he added. McGrath also told the dispatcher that he chose to run away from the property because he had two children he needed to protect and feared returning to the scene.
Shortly after this, Mincey reportedly called 911 himself. During his conversation with the dispatcher, he allegedly admitted to the shootings, explaining his frustration with the family dynamic. “My wife had told my daughter that I didn’t take care of my mother,” Mincey said.
“I do every day, and I—I just shot my daughter and my wife of 38 years.” When the dispatcher asked if the victims were still showing signs of life, Mincey reportedly replied, “No, it don’t look like it. It was a nine millimeter right straight to the head.”
The outlet noted that he expressed regret while speaking with the dispatcher, saying, “I just—I couldn’t handle no more the f—ing lying and the way they were screaming at me. I don’t know, I just, I lost it. I’m so sorry. Thirty-eight years, I love her.” Mincey remained at the residence until law enforcement arrived to take him into custody.
Per News 4 SA, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation into the double homicide remains active. Jail records indicate that Mincey is facing multiple felony charges in addition to the two counts of murder.
Recently, there have been two other instances where family arguments allegedly led to a tragic ending. In California, police were called for a domestic dispute and arrived to see a father and son arguing through the window. When they heard calls for help and broke in, it was to see the father on fire. In Tennessee, a mother was allegedly set on fire by her son after she tried to evict him.
