Tom Hardy Means Business In New Stills For Mad Max: Fury Road

Even though Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice slipped to 2016, next summer is still jammed packed with nine kinds of blockbusters all vying to become an instant hit. But perhaps the boldest of the bunch is George Miller's upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth installment in the seminal, post-apocalyptic series that will see Tom Hardy star as the titular scavenger.

Even though Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice slipped to 2016, next summer is still jammed packed with nine kinds of blockbusters all vying to become an instant hit. But perhaps the boldest of the bunch is George Miller’s upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth installment in the seminal, post-apocalyptic series that will see Tom Hardy star as the titular scavenger.

Over the past month or so, we’ve been treated to a series of new images from the film itself along with an explosive, balls-to-the-wall trailer — which showcases some of the insane practical effects within Fury Road — and today, Empire has unveiled a pair of stills that showcase the movie adorning the outlet’s latest magazine covers.

If you’re already familiar with Empire’s set-up, the outlet often publishes two copies of its magazine every month, with subscribers gaining access to an exclusive cover that boasts a unique, visually striking image that you’ll not find anywhere else. This month proved to be no different, with the subscriber cover having Tom Hardy’s Max sport a steely look of determination. It’s a great promo, and one that tees up the stark tone of desperation and survival that will no doubt be rife within Miller’s upcoming tale.

Tom Hardy looks set to rip up a storm when Mad Max: Fury Road arrives in theaters on May 15, 2015.

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
