Marco Polo Renewed For Season 2 As Netflix Sets Premieres For Bloodline, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, More

The semi-annual Television Critics Association’s winter press tour is well underway, and Netflix is taking the opportunity to shed some light on its future slate of originals. It was recently revealed that Marco Polo, a historical epic that is the streaming giant’s most ambitious series to date, has been picked for a second season of 13 episodes, to premiere sometime next year.

Production on the second season of Marco Polo will commence later this year. The show received mixed reviews in its first season, but it represents a huge step for Netflix’s original programming, so the streaming giant was always sure to stand behind it for multiple seasons. The John Fusco-created drama stars Lorenzo Richelmy as Marco and features Benedict Wong, Joan Chen, Zhu Zhu, Chin Han, Olivia Cheng, Tom Wu, Remy Hii, Uli Latukefu, Mahesh Jadu, Claudia Kim and Rick Yune.

Netflix also announced premiere dates for several upcoming originals. First up is former NBC comedy The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which stars Ellie Kemper as a woman who escapes a cult and starts life over in New York City. 30 Rock‘s Tina Fey and Robert Carlock co-created, wrote and will exec-produce. All 13 episodes of the show’s first season will be available for streaming on March 6th.

Original drama Bloodline, which stars Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, Sam Shepard and Sissy Spacek, will arrive on March 20th. All 13 episodes of the first season, which “centers on a close-knit family of four adult siblings whose secrets and scars are revealed when their black sheep brother returns home,” will be made available at that time.

Marvel’s Daredevil, perhaps the most anticipated series on Netflix’s schedule, will bow on April 10th. Charlie Cox stars as blind attorney turned vigilante Matthew Murdock, leading up a star-studded cast that also includes Deborah Ann Woll, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosario Dawson, Elden Henson and Ayelet Zurer. That series is the first in Netflix’s partnership with Marvel, which also includes AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Finally, Grace and Frankie, a comedy series starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, will premiere on May 8th. From the co-creator of Friends, it centers on two women who are brought together when their husbands jointly announce that they are gay and planning to get married.
