At the height of the Sony hack scandal came a flood of leaked emails detailing the correspondence between some of Hollywood’s biggest hitters. Amidst those were a series of conversations concerning a potential crossover which would link together two of Sony’s largest franchises: Men In Black and Jump Street.

The LEGO Movie directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord were at the hypothetical helm, and both addressed the idea at this year’s Golden Globes. “It’s still a crazy idea,” said Lord last month. A descriptor that collaborator Miller was keen to adopt when he recently addressed the project.

“Well, it’s very, very early on in this crazy fever pitch,” he told Coming Soon, “but it’s definitely a really interesting concept that makes you think. Talking about it, developing it with Jonah and Channing and Rodney and the studio, we can’t just do the, “Hey, it’s the same thing again” schtick because we did that already.”

Not offering a definitive confirmation, Miller still seems excited by the prospect. With the duo’s successful back catalogue of spin-off rebootery already established, Sony would be hard pressed to find a creative team as inventive as this pair.

Asked about the 22 Jump Street post-credits sequel montage, and the future of the franchise, Miller added:

“Those are canon, all 22 sequels. If we’re going to do something, it’s got to be different but still have that same very specific Jump Street flavor to it.”

Melding together two separate franchises would be very different… but let’s not get too hasty. The duo have a packed future slate, with the upcoming post-apocalypse series, The Last Man On Earth, not to mention the LEGO sequels and spinoffs. While it’s interesting to note that he does mention it’s being developed, that doesn’t guarantee a greenlight. It sounds like the Jump StreetMen In Black crossover could all depend on a killer concept; so who better than Lord and Miller?
