Well, this is interesting and unexpected. We’ve heard that The CW has tentative plans for future series to spin off of Arrow and The Flash, but their latest plan is so exciting and out of left field that it feels almost too good to be true.

According to Deadline, the next spinoff series will be a team-up show featuring several characters from both The Flash and Arrow, to be toplined by Brandon Routh (who plays Arrow’s The Atom), Wentworth Miller (The Flash‘s Captain Cold), Victor Garber (one half of The Flash‘s Firestorm) and Arrow alum Caity Lotz (whose character, Sara Lance/Canary, died in the opening episode of season three). They’ll also be joined by “three major DC Comics characters who have never appeared in a TV series.”

Like both Arrow and The Flash, the new series will be developed by producers Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti along with The Mysteries of Laura and The Flash producer Sarah Schechter. The project is in early stages of development, but is expected to skip the pilot cycle completely and go straight to series, possibly for next midseason.

What exactly this show is, and what other characters could show up, is still a complete mystery, but an exciting one nonetheless. As a fan of both current DC shows on The CW and all four of the actors/characters that will headline this new series, I absolutely cannot wait to see how this develops. My guess is it’ll end up being some kind of Justice League hybrid, but how a villainous character like Captain Cold or a dead one like Canary factors into that remains to be seen.

Tell us, what do you think of this new spinoff idea? And what DC characters would you like to see in the three mystery roles? Sound off in the comments below.
