All may have been quiet on the Big Boss front of late, aside from a few low-res screenshots posted to Hideo Kojima’s Twitter account, but it looks to be that Kojima Productions is gearing up for a “big” announcement relating to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on Wednesday, March 4.
Announced via Konami’s official page, the teaser features a timer counting down to 6am PT/9am ET on the aforementioned date, with all signs pointing to the studio revealing the official release date for the much-anticipated sequel. It would certainly make sense for Kojima to get the launch details out in the open, leaving the studio with an open slate to showcase the open-world gameplay in the lead in to E3 and Gamescom during the summer.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will also herald the return of Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component that fell by the wayside following the release of Guns of the Patriots back in 2008. Whether the company’s new and modernised approach to MGO can prove to be a success in a genre as competitive as the online shooter remains to be seen, but perhaps shooter fans will welcome something more tactical in lieu of Call of Duty and Battlefield.
