CBS’ forthcoming small screen extravaganza, Supergirl, has added a new threat to its roster of characters. The Wrap reports that Jeremy Jordan – recently seen singing his heart out with Anna Kendrick in The Last Five Years – has signed on to play an enemy of the titular comic book hero.
Jordan’s role will be that of Winslow “Winn” Schott, a tech genius and superstar IT whiz who works alongside Kara at Cat Grant’s mega-corporation, CatCo. DC fans will no doubt recognize his rather pedestrian-sounding name, which masks his true identity as the terrible Toyman.
Created by The Arrow and Flash producer, Greg Berlanti, the show will trace Kara Zor-El (Glee‘s Melissa Benoist)’s earthly experiences after she flees Krypton for a life on our humble planet. As an effort to blend in, she takes employment with successful business owner, Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), who runs the aforementioned global organization. With Supergirl now at the ripe age of 24, she decides to explore her extraordinary abilities – which will no doubt rouse the suspicions of those around her.
The supporting cast enlisted to flesh out Kara’s inner circle includes Chyler Leigh as her foster sister, Alex Danvers; Desperate Housewives’ Mehcad Brooks as photographer Jimmy Olsen; Nashville star Laura Benanti as Kara’s birth mother; and Homeland‘s David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, head of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations.
Lending the series a meta edge are a couple of new additions, Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Cain played Superman in the ABC series, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, while Slater portrayed Supergirl in the 1984 feature.
Supergirl is expected to arrive later this year.
