Previous bits of information on CBS’ upcoming Supergirl series suggested that the titular Last Daughter of Krypton would be going up against “The Lumberjack” in the pilot episode. Now, courtesy of io9, a new bit of casting suggests that some axe wielding logger won’t be the only one giving Kara Zor-El trouble in her debut hour of television.

According to the new report, The Mentalist and Extant alum Owain Yeoman has joined the cast as Vartox, a powerful alien from the planet of Valeron who’s gone up against Superman and Power Girl (an alternate universe version of Supergirl) in the comics. Vartox is said to be as powerful as the Man of Steel, with added powers of telekinesis, astral projection, telepathy and even the ability to change his appearance at will.

Vartox once battled Power Girl in hopes of forcing her to help him repopulate his planet. Though there’s no telling at this point if he’ll have similar goals in the Supergirl series, there’s a chance he’ll appear just as a sports broadcaster like in the New 52.

Supergirl has a series commitment from CBS, and is expected to air this fall. It stars Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Toyman, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, and Dean Cain and Helen Slater as Fred and Sylvia Danvers.
