Teen Titans TV Series Now Titled Blackbirds, Begins Filming This Spring

Of all the upcoming superhero television shows from Marvel and DC (and there are a lot of them), one of the most mysterious and exciting is Warner Brothers' Teen Titans adaptation. Dubbed Titans, the show will focus on the exploits of Dick Grayson, the former Batman sidekick who abandons his Robin moniker and "emerges from the shadow of the Bat" to become Nightwing. Not much has been revealed about the show thus far, apart from a possible roster, but that may be about to change.

Of all the upcoming superhero television shows from Marvel and DC (and there are a lot of them), one of the most mysterious and exciting is Warner Brothers’ Teen Titans adaptation. Dubbed Titans, the show will focus on the exploits of Dick Grayson, the former Batman sidekick who abandons his Robin moniker and “emerges from the shadow of the Bat” to become Nightwing. Not much has been revealed about the show thus far, apart from a possible roster, but that may be about to change.

According to Season-Zero, production on the pilot episode is set to begin in Toronto this Spring, which means that casting announcements may be imminent. Last we heard, Nightwing would be joined by a handful of young DC heroes, including Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Raven, Starfire, and crime-fighing duo Hawk & Dove. Then, of course, there’s the possibility of taking characters from either Arrow or The Flash, should the studio opt to connect this new series to The CW’s growing DC TV universe (which, at this point in time, does not connect with shows like Supergirl or Constantine).

The new report also states that Titans has gone through a bit of a name change, and will now be called Blackbirds. Oddly enough, there is no DC Comics team that goes by that name, meaning that it’s probably a nod to the fact that most of the main cast have bird-themed monikers. It could also be an indication that some of the other Robins, or even the Birds of Prey (including characters like Black Canary and Huntress) could show up at some point as well.

Of course, that’s just speculation on my part, so we’ll just have to await further developments, which will hopefully arrive when TNT’s television upfronts begin on May 13th, 2015.
