New mission. New fate. Not only does this simple-but-effective tagline decorate the latest poster for Terminator: Genisys, but it also perfectly encapsulates Alan Taylor’s hard reset. Following the middling Rise of the Machines coupled with the equally-poor Salvation, Paramount has opted to send its time-travelling behemoth back to the drawing board for the latest installment, which sees timelines merge from the past, present and far future.
Kicking things off in the year 2029, Genisys will open in a time when humanity has been completely decimated, leaving the remaining members of the resistance to employ guerrilla tactics. It is here that Jason Clarke’s John Connor decides to send Kyle Reese back in time in order to protect his seemingly vulnerable mother, Sarah, but it isn’t long before our protagonist discovers that Conor’s prediction was way off, and that Emilia Clarke’s heroine is in fact a badass.
Prior trailers have ventured into spoiler territory unabated, but we’re happy to report that neither of the clips (seen above) contain any spoiler-sensitive footage.
Terminator: Genisys will hope to kickstart a brand new trilogy for Paramount and Skydance Productions when it lands in theaters on July 1 in the States, followed by a release across the Atlantic in the UK on July 2.
