Has A.K.A. Jessica Jones Been Renamed?

Given the rapturous reception for Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil earlier this year, the streaming service's next superhero series certainly has big shoes to fill. Centering on superhero-turned-private-investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), the show will introduce the second eventual member of the Defenders, cementing Netflix as a platform that can support an interconnected Marvel television universe. Looking at Netflix's listing for the series today, it appears that the show, previously called A.K.A. Jessica Jones, has undergone a slight name change.

Given the rapturous reception for Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil earlier this year, the streaming service’s next superhero series certainly has big shoes to fill. Centring on superhero-turned-private-investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), the show will introduce the second eventual member of the Defenders, cementing Netflix as a platform that can support an interconnected Marvel television universe. Looking at Netflix’s listing for the series today, it appears that the show, previously called A.K.A. Jessica Jones, has undergone a slight name change.

Dropping the acronym, the show appears to be simply known as Marvel’s Jessica Jones. That keeps the show in line with the no-frills title that Marvel’s Daredevil carried, and it’s not too much to theorize that the streaming service’s future Marvel shows will be called Marvel’s Luke Cage and Marvel’s Iron Fist.

Here’s the official synopsis for Jessica Jones:

Ever since her short-lived stint as a Super Hero ended in tragedy, Jessica Jones has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic, badass private detective in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Plagued by self-loathing, and a wicked case of PTSD, Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need… especially if they’re willing to cut her a check.

Ritter stars as the superhero, while the show also includes supporting players like Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Zebediah Kilgrave/The Purple Man (David Tennant) and Patsy Walker/Hellcat (Rachael Taylor). Unknown characters are also being played by Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty and Wil Traval, and it’s rumored that Rosario Dawson’s Daredevil character could pop up somewhere on Jessica Jones, serving as a nifty piece of connective tissue between the two similarly set series.

Jessica Jones is expected to bow on Netflix sometime before the end of 2015. It will be followed next year by Luke Cage then Iron Fist.
