An occult symbol suddenly appearing on your ceiling is not a good omen but, thankfully, is something generally relegated to horror movies rather than real life. But, unfortunately for one man, it appears he’s living through the opening scenes of the next Blumhouse Halloween hit.
On Reddit‘s r/whatisit, user advanced-pool-2080 posted a thread titled, “saw this on my ceiling ?!?!?!“. This contained two pictures of a ceiling which appears to have a five-pointed star – a pentagram – slowly appearing on it. He says:
“lowkey about to move out because i don’t know how this got there , saw this while laying down been living here for 2 years and never saw it until now , i wanna know how this got there”
“Your ceiling is evil!”
Theories as to how this pentagram got there came in thick and fast. One user says that this is probably part of a larger design that’s been painted over, another believes the previous tenant was likely a “goth mommy”, and one simply says, “Your ceiling is evil!!!! Don’t question it otherwise you’ll summon the ceiling demon…”
More pragmatically, the top-voted reply gives the most logical reason: “A previous tenant drew it on the ceiling and management painted it over poorly.” So, why would someone paint a symbol as controversial as a pentagram on their ceiling?
Many pointed out that in Wicca, the pentagram is considered a protective symbol that prevents unwanted energies and beings from entering a home. So, arguably, this symbol might be secretly aiding this homeowner without him knowing it. However, the pentagram is also the official symbol of the Church of Satan and represents the goat head of Baphomet.
The good news is that there’s an easy way to distinguish between the two types of pentagram. The protective Wiccan one has its singular point at the top, while the Satanic one has its singular point at the bottom. The bad news is that as this man’s pentagram is on the ceiling, there’s no way of knowing which way it’s supposed to be viewed.
The poster should also bear in mind that the vast majority of Satanists are completely harmless, so even if you are now renting a formerly satanic apartment, you probably don’t have anything to worry about. That said, it’s a fact that Satanism does sometimes attract people who want to commit evil acts, like this Wisconsin teen who killed his parents while under the spell of a bizarre criminal cult.
advanced-pool-2080 did not confirm whether he’s actually going to move out, but remains baffled as to how it got there. But, for now, the thread indicates that he’s just going to try living with it.
