Fear not, though, for those ardent players who have already beaten the Dancing All Night spinoff have unlocked a new trailer for the fifth numerical entry, which you can check out above. Though the footage is yet to be localized, this latest glimpse at Persona 5 offers up our first real look at the refined battle system, not to mention the colorful cast of characters lining your roster.

In keeping with one of the genre’s most enduring tropes, it looks to be that your protagonist will spend a brief amount of time in prison, though it isn’t long before he’s able to break free off his shackles, channeling his otherworldly Persona as a handy get-out-of-jail-free card. From that point on, these new characters are seen locking horns with the shadows in and around the Tokyo area, though there’s always time for school lessons in between the supernatural action.

It’s exactly what fans of the series expect, and considering that there hasn’t been a mainline installment in the beloved RPG franchise since 2008, it’s exciting to see one of gaming’s most prestigious staples on the brink of a return.

Despite the lack of announcements in recent months, Atlus has assured fans the world over that Persona 5 will launch across both North America and Japan later this year. It’s slated for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
