Throughout the course of the week, many users have encountered slow download speeds whilst using the PlayStation Store, leading to prolonged waits for digital titles. Sony has since acknowledged the performance issues and has assured fans that the company’s PlayStation Network engineers are currently investigating the issue.

Taking to the community forums, PlayStation users have voiced their concerns about the service, with Sony offering the following response.

“We are aware of reports that some users are experiencing slower than usual download speeds from the PlayStation Store,” it said. “This has been reported to our network team for investigation. Please keep an eye on this thread for updates.”

According to those affected, download speeds plummeted after purchasing a title, which lead to estimated counter display exorbitant figures such as ’99+ hours’ until the download was complete. It seems that performance is slowing getting back to normal, and that the majority of issues appear to be located in Europe.

It’s no secret that the PSN has developed a reputation over the years – particularly during the PS3 era – of being temperamental, be it through unexpected outages or a laborious user interface that makes for a frustrating experience when browsing Sony’s digital storefront.
