Hey Tron fans, thought your days of bad news were finally over after Disney scuttled Tron 3?  Think again. During a recent interview, Bruce Boxleitner, known as one of the sci-fi franchise’s most enduring champions, revealed that he has finally given up the ghost and moved on from the possibility of ever playing Alan Bradley/Tron again.

Talking to /Film, Boxleitner communicated his immense displeasure with Disney’s hot-and-cold treatment of the Tron movies and explained that he’s been fooled one too many times to get his hopes up again. The excerpt, below:

“I don’t really care anymore,” Bradley said when I asked him if he thought TRON 3 might get revived down the road. “I’m done with it. I’ve moved on. I hate to say that but it’s been too up and down for me. I would rather not just keep going. I don’t want to repeat my career anymore. That’d be like, ‘Let’s reboot Scarecrow and Mrs. King.’ No, I’m not interested. Or Babylon 5.”

Hear that? That’s the sound of every remaining Tron fan out there wincing in pain. Even though Tron 3 is currently canceled, with director Joseph Kosinski and stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde moving onto other projects, the idea that the franchise would, given another shot at life, have to continue without Boxleitner is a tough one to swallow. Practically no one has been more passionate about Tron over the years than him, and absolutely no self-respecting fan of the series would want to see another Tron movie without one of its most important players.

And so, with that, it appears that Boxleitner has reluctantly put the final nail in Tron‘s cold, high-tech coffin. It’s entirely understandable why the actor would want to quash his hopes about Tron for good – Disney has been jerking him and everyone else involved in the series around for more than four years now about a third installment. But for Boxleitner, holding out hope has got to feel like staring into the darkened screen of an unplugged arcade game. After a while, the only thing you notice is how weary your reflection is starting to look.
