Now that Tom Holland’s role as Marvel’s friendly, wet-behind-the-ears neighbourhood Spider-Man has been confirmed, not to mention Jon Watts’ place behind the camera, fans have been busy sifting through the barrage of conflicting reports relating to the hero’s brand new suit. It’s a redesign that will reportedly blow us away, and if there’s one thing that is crystal clear it’s that the studio certainly has a lot of confidence in Watt’s new spin on Peter Parker.

Keeping the hype train chugging along is a new rumor picked up by ComicBook.com, which states that Holland’s new appearance will be very “Avengers-friendly.” But which side will he enlist under when Civil War kicks off in earnest?

Here’s what the latest speculative tidbit has to offer on the star spangled disguise.

“[It’s] an Avengers-friendly version of the traditional Spider-suit, complete with detailing reminiscent of costumes like Captain America’s Avengers movie suits,” and add: “The blue is a darker color, not unlike what we saw in The Amazing Spider-Man…There’s a version of the Spider-Man suit out there, which is absolutely blue and red with black webs.”

Retaining the stark blue and red color scheme from the comics, it’s hard to imagine that Marvel’s revised design is radically different from the one Andrew Garfield donned for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man films. What is perhaps more interesting is the possibility of Holland sporting several suits throughout the course of Civil War and, potentially, into Watt’s standalone feature in 2017. The Iron Spider Armor, anyone?

Depending on how loyal Joe and Anthony Russo are to the Civil War comic thread, this guise in particular will be given to Tom Holland’s budding webslinger by Tony Stark, indicating that the newest addition to the roster of heroes may side with Robert Downey Jr.’s genius billionaire playboy philanthropist when the chips are down.

Marvel’s new take on Spider-Man has drawn a lot of interest, but one of the biggest questions still looming over Tom Holland’s webslinger is whether he’ll be #TeamIronMan or #TeamCap. All will be decided when Captain America: Civil War launches into theaters on May 6, 2016.
