“Mexico City, what were you doing there?” Ralph Fiennes’ M tentatively asks in the most recent trailer for Spectre, to which Daniel Craig’s James Bond replies: “I was taking some overdue holidays.” Yeah, holidays. What exactly Craig’s 00 agent was doing on the streets of the capital won’t be revealed for some time yet, but today’s brand new poster for the spy thriller pays homage the Dias de los Muertos festival, which featured heavily in that aforementioned clip.
Sporting an ice-white dinner jacket and his trusty Walter PPK – replete with silencer – the one-sheet is a striking look at the series stalwart, as he looks to embark on his most personal mission to date. He’s joined by Oscar-winning actress Lea Seydoux, who is on point to play Madeleine Swann, a doctor-turned-ally who assists Craig’s protagonist on his journey.
[zerg]Facing questions against his own capability with the license to kill – he did almost die in Skyfall, after all – Spectre will introduce us to a James Bond origin tale of sorts, with director Sam Mendes keen on exploring the murky beginnings of Craig’s super-spy. Indeed, it’s the titular organization (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) that will be causing Bond the most heartache throughout the course of the movie, particularly when it’s revealed that it is Spectre that has been pulling the strings from the shadows for quite some time.
The threat of an omnipresent supergroup is unnerving to say the least. Headed up by Christoph Waltz’s Hans Oberhauser, early snippets of the film have hinted that it is Waltz’s character who has acted as the “author” of Bond’s life of pain. One thing’s for sure: Bond won’t be long in taking the fight to this pseudo-father figure, but we have a feeling Mendes has a few twists up the sleeve of his own dinner jacket ahead of the film’s November release.
