MGM and Sony are beginning to turn up the heat on all things Spectre. After teasing his involvement in the film’s theme song just yesterday, British singer-songwriter Sam Smith confirmed that his title track will be called “Writing’s on the Wall,” while a new image for Sam Mendes’ spy thriller has debuted that features Christoph Waltz and Léa Seydoux.

On board to play the film’s lead villain Franz Oberhauser (Blofeld?), Waltz’s devious schemer seems to be up to his usual tricks in the still, drawing Seydoux’s doctor Madeleine Swann in a situation against her will. It’s difficult to tell from what stage of Spectre this is from, but it seems that Swann may harbor a connection to Oberhauser that has not yet been revealed in the film’s promotional campaign.

As for the Smith’s theme song, “Writing’s on the Wall” may not be a title track in the vein of Adele’s Skyfall, but it couldn’t be more appropriate for Spectre. As a matter of fact, there’s a line in the trailer when Naomie Harris’ Moneypenny tells James Bond that they – MI6 big wigs, we assume – think he’s “finished” as the 00 agent. Couple this with the motivations of Andrew Scott’s Max Denbigh, who questions the entire operation and Bond’s place at the helm, and Daniel Craig’s weathered super-spy will clearly have to prove his doubters wrong come December.

“Writing’s on the Wall” will be available to pre-order at midnight via iTunes, and we believe it’ll only be a matter of time before a teaser for the song appears online.

Spectre opens on November 6 in the States. Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall,” meanwhile can be pre-ordered via iTunes from midnight tonight ahead of a general release on September 25.

In Spectre, a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE. Sam Mendes returns to direct SPECTRE, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as 007 for the fourth time. SPECTRE is produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, from a script by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade.
