Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Will Be 15 Upon Joining Marvel Cinematic Universe

Much digital ink has been spilled on the high-profile deal between Marvel and Sony that has paved the way for Spider-Man to enter the cinematic roster of the Avengers. How will he be incorporated into the sprawling universe? Will the general audience grow tired of another Peter Parker origins tale? And how old will Tom Holland's rendition of the character turn out to be?

Much digital ink has been spilled on the high-profile deal between Marvel and Sony that has paved the way for Spider-Man to enter the cinematic roster of the Avengers. How will he be incorporated into the sprawling universe? Will the general audience grow tired of another Peter Parker origins tale? And how old will Tom Holland’s rendition of the character turn out to be?

Interesting questions, of course, but at least we have the answer to one of those today courtesy of director Jon Watts. He’s taking point to helm the 2017 standalone film featuring Holland’s webcrawler, but ardent Marvelites will know all too well that that isn’t the first time the actor will don the famous suit.

Rather, that introduction will be attached to Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: Civil War, where Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will be incorporated into the plot as something of an urban legend – one who has stalked the shadows of New York City for close to a year.

As for the actual set-up of Spider-Man as a character, don’t be expecting to see yet another Uncle Ben bite the bullet this time around. Here’s what Jon Watts had to share about Holland’s rendition of the webslinger.

“There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben. I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high-school movie. We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now. Tom was pretty perfect. He’s very athletic. He can actually do a backflip! If he didn’t already capture the spirit of the character, with that on top the kid is Spider-Man.”

Before taking the Big Apple by storm in his 2017 standalone feature, Tom Holland will touch down among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016.
