Ridley Scott Explains Alien: Paradise Lost Title And Its Ties To The 1979 Classic

Yesterday, Ridley Scott made the surprise announcement that his Prometheus sequel is actually going to be titled Alien: Paradise Lost. This came as a major shock to just about everyone, especially as this has seemingly thrown the status of Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 into doubt. It is, after all, hard to imagine an Alien prequel being released, only to be followed a year or two later by a follow-up to the fourth movie.

Yesterday, Ridley Scott made the surprise announcement that his Prometheus sequel is actually going to be titled Alien: Paradise Lost. This came as a major shock to just about everyone, especially as this has seemingly thrown the status of Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 into doubt. Regardless of what happens with that, we’re definitely going to be getting Alien: Paradise Lost at some point in the next couple of years, and its director expanded on the decision to use that title in a recent interview at the UK premiere of The Martian.

“Well, because we’re heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented. We’ll go back into the back door of the very first Alien that I did thirty years ago.”

With Scott recently revealing that he’s planned out as many as three Prometheus sequels, it seems like this new movie is going to build up to the events of his 1979 sci-fi horror classic and explain how and why those eggs were on that ship discovered by the crew of the Nostromo.

Of course, how much of that story will be told in Alien: Paradise Lost remains to be seen. With Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace reprising their roles though, production is expected to begin next year, so hopefully we’ll have our answers soon.
