Ridley Scott Teases Alien: Paradise Lost And Confirms Plan For Alien 5

Following the reveal that the Prometheus sequel will be titled Alien: Paradise Lost, director Ridley Scott has shed even more light on what we should expect from the movie. For starters, it sounds like he’s finally ready to address how these prequels are going to link to his 1979 classic, something which didn’t really factor into Prometheus all that much.

“Years ago, I kept mulling over what Alien 2 could be. I was fiddling around with some ideas. I was always fascinated with why this thing [the xenomorph] would be made, by whom, and for what purpose? The planet it was on – and I was looking at the dark side of the moon – would be called Paradise,” said the director.

“Paradise is a very ominous word. In a way it is Prometheus 2. It’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called that [Alien: Paradise Lost]. Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien… I’ve even got connections with Ripley [in this], but I’m not telling you what.”

So, despite the name change, it’s clear that the follow-up isn’t going to suddenly be a drastically different movie and will very much be a continuation of what’s come before, despite having closer ties to Alien. And that’s definitely a good thing.

The most exciting of those ties is obviously going to be that nod to Ripley, a character who is expected to factor into Alien 5. But wait, is that movie even happening now?

“I’m producing it,” said Scott. “The design is for it to go out next, after this. This will go out first. It’s more associated with Ripley, it’s a completely different angle, it’s more of a sequel. I’m coming in from the back end.”

After confirming that Alien: Paradise Lost is going to deal with the origin story of the Xenomorph, Scott was asked if Michael Fassbender’s David (the actor has been confirmed as returning alongside Noomi Rapace) will spend the entirety of the movie as a disembodied head. That is, after all, where we last saw him in Prometheus, but it sounds like Scott has something different planned::

“It’s going to be better than that. It’s a very nice big idea I’ve got. It’s really great. You’re going to have to wait…”
