CD Projekt Red Says Cyberpunk 2077 Is “Far, Far Bigger” Than The Witcher III: Wild Hunt

As one of the biggest and best reviewed games of the year thus far, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt needs no introduction. But incase you've yet to step foot on the Northern Kingdoms as Geralt of Rivia, the sheer scale and scope of CD Projekt Red's magnificent RPG is truly something to behold, which is why the developer caused quite the stir when it revealed that its long-gestating sci-fi title Cyberpunk 2077 is "far, far bigger" than anything else they've created.

As one of the biggest and best reviewed games of the year thus far, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt needs no introduction. But incase you’ve yet to step foot on the Northern Kingdoms as Geralt of Rivia, the sheer scale and scope of CD Projekt Red’s magnificent RPG is truly something to behold, which is why the developer caused quite the stir when it revealed that its long-gestating sci-fi title Cyberpunk 2077 is “far, far bigger” than anything else they’ve created.

Quite the statement, mind you, and it comes by way of the studio’s visual effects artist Jose Teixeira, who recently sat down with MCVUK to discuss Wild Hunt, its soon-to-be-released expansion Hearts of Stone, and ultimately the status and audacious size of 2077.

“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” said Teixeira. “Far, far bigger. We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”

For a project that has been cloaked in mystery since it was first teased back in 2012, Cyberpunk 2077 is beginning to gain cult status as one of the more intriguing titles incubating in development. It’s hardly surprising, really, given the pedigree of CD Projekt Red and the staggering success of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt earlier this year. Indeed, Teixeria believes that creating such a complex and intricate open world for Wild Hunt has opened up new creative avenues for the Polish development team.

“If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience,” said Teixeira. “Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.”

Don’t expect to learn much more about Cyberpunk 2077 anytime before 2017, though Wild Hunt‘s Hearts of Stone expansion is due to launch for consoles and PC on October 13.
