After 5 canonical motion pictures, umpteen nightmares and a box office haul to the tune of $800 million, Blumhouse’s micro-budget horror series will bow out this fall with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, and today brings a new trailer and pair of clips in anticipation of the franchise’s curtain call.
Helmed by Gregory Plotkin, the ultimate chapter will tread overly familiar ground in terms of story, having a family unearth a dark and foreboding secret within the four walls of their home. In this instance, it’s a large, unwieldy camera that acts as the film’s Macguffin, harboring the power to peer behind the veil into the titular alternate reality. What do they see? Nothing good, judging by today’s new promos.
Retaining the found footage tenet that has served as the spin of the Paranormal Activity horror series, The Ghost Dimension stars Chris J. Murray and Brit Snow as the lead protagonists, as they attempt to rid the supernatural poltergeists haunting their home. But beyond all of that, it’s Plotkin’s teases of the film answering all of the questions relating to the core mythology that really has us on the edge of our seats, as the director – who has long served as editor of the Paranormal series – looks to bring a sense of closure to one of cinema’s more demented, low-key horror titles.
Acting as the sixth and final entry into the lucrative horror series – you know, until the inevitable reboot – Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension will creep into theaters in time for October 23.
