The Hunger Games franchise is coming to an end next month and rumour has it that X-Men: Apocalypse will be the actress’ last outing as a mutant, but don’t go thinking that Jennifer Lawrence is struggling to find movie roles to fill the void that those franchises will leave. In fact, it’s now been revealed that the actress is in talks to work alongside critically acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky.

The untitled indie she’s being eyed for will be his next project, and the director has already started reaching out to actors before shooting begins early next year. There’s absolutely no word on what this movie is going to involve, but it’s not thought to be his Evel Knievel biopic starring Channing Tatum or a script he recently turned into New Regency about a boy living in Staten Island whose drawings come to life. An “indie drama” is all we know at this stage.

As of right now, Lawrence is shooting sci-fi drama Passengers alongside Chris Pratt, and it sounds like she could move straight from that to this. With Joy also on the way later this year, the actress is clearly doing a great job of finding a balance between dramas and blockbusters, and it’s easy to understand why Aronofsky is interested in working with her (and why Lawrence wants to work with the Noah and Black Swan helmer).

Whatever this movie ends up being, it’s going to be very interesting to see how the rest of the cast comes together and what it ultimately ends up revolving around. Aronofsky has a unique and brilliant way of approaching his work, so if this is another hit for him, both he and Lawrence could be eyeing Oscars come 2017.
