Could a return trip to Stars Hollow be on the cards? The Hollywood Reporter certainly thinks so, as today the outlet brings word that Netflix has opened talks revive Gilmore Girls for a limited run, with some of the leading talent also attached.

News of the beloved comedy-drama making a comeback has cropped up numerous times in the past, though Netflix’s negotiations is the most promising nugget to date. Such a revival would welcome back co-stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, reprising their title roles as Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, respectively. Behind the lens, the online streaming giant is on the verge of completing the family reunion, courting both series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, executive producer Daniel Palladino back for another stint of episodes.

According to the outlet, Gilmore Girls would make a return for four 90-minute episodes, dropping the typical 10-episode model that Netflix has employed across many of its original properties. Even still, such a platform would naturally provide the writing team with an opportunity to bring closure to the title mother-daughter pairing, with Sherman-Palladino noting earlier this year that “it’s always a bummer when you don’t get to end it. I had hoped maybe that there would have been a call, ‘Hey, it’s the last episode, do you want to come back?’ And there wasn’t. But that’s OK, that’s not the way it works in Hollywood where there are rules.”

Airing for 7 seasons on Warner Bros.’ network, Gilmore Girls was eventually canned in 2007 due to a dwindling viewership. In the time since, the series has garnered something of a cult following, and news of Netflix breathing new life into the dormant dramedy is surely enough to get fans pining for more.
