Doctor Who May Feature In Warner’s The LEGO Movie 2

Not only was 'Everything is Awesome' one of the catchiest movie theme songs of 2014, it was a rather apt description of Chris Miller and Phil Lord's surprisingly excellent computer-animated feature. But could things get even more awesome for the sequel? Rob Schrab certainly thinks so; he's behind the lens for Warner Bros. anticipated follow-up, and upon appearing on Community creator Dan Harmon's podcast, Harmontown, the director dropped a real clanger.

Not only was ‘Everything is Awesome’ one of the catchiest movie theme songs of 2014, but it was a rather apt description of Chris Miller and Phil Lord’s surprisingly excellent computer-animated feature. But could things get even more awesome for the sequel? Rob Schrab certainly thinks so; he’s behind the lens for Warner Bros. anticipated follow-up, and upon appearing on Community creator Dan Harmon’s podcast, Harmontown, the director dropped a real clanger.

That is, thanks to an agreement between the BBC and Warner, The LEGO Movie 2 could feature Doctor Who. Yes, the Time Lord himself may appear at some point during Schrab’s sequel, though the jury’s still out on whether said role – if it is indeed confirmed – will be a substantial one or a fleeting cameo in the vein of Han Solo and Chewbacca from the original movie.

When quizzed about the possible inclusion of Doctor Who, the director was understandably coy, revealing that he was to meet with the BBC yesterday in order to discuss the licensing of a “certain character.” Before he stopped himself short of confirming, Schrab said that “there’s a certain character that the BBC owns, and they’re asking we would it be possible if…”

It’s no surprise that BBC’s Time Lord is in contention for a role in The LEGO Movie 2. After all, it was a deal between the company and Warner Bros. that ensured Doctor Who featured in the recently-released LEGO Dimensions video game, starring opposite Gandalf, Batman and other famed characters from the publisher’s vaults. Could this have planted the seed for a feature film debut?

Remaining in the same universe and WB’s The LEGO Batman offshoot is picking up pace, with Daredevil alum Rosario Dawson joining the star-studded cast as Batgirl. It’ll arrive on February 10, 2017, before The LEGO Movie 2 can continue to scream ‘Everything is Awesome’ from the rooftops in either late 2018 or early 2019.
