Throughout the years, the creative minds behind Supernatural have managed to find a way to believably include comedic elements within the framework of the series without jumping the shark, so to speak. The promo video for “Just My Imagination” shows that they look to continue this tradition. Fans of episodes such as “Tall Tales,” “Wishful Thinking,” and “Changing Channels” are well advised to set their DVRs for what could very well be an installment that we will be talking about for years to come.
In this episode, Sam’s childhood imaginary friend, Sully, manifests himself and can be seen by Dean as well. Not only that, but similar occurrences happen throughout town.
What could possibly be the cause of these bizarre happenings?
The answer likely lies with the director of this particular episode: Richard Speight, Jr. Longtime fans will recognize him as the actor who played The Trickster/ Loki/ Gabriel. Yes, Lucifer did murder him in Season 5’s “Hammer of the Gods,” but he did make a rather ambiguous return in Season 9’s “Meta Fiction.” Popular Supernatural characters never truly stay dead and the choice of director can’t be coincidental. Fans with sharp eyes will no doubt notice some tasty treats in the promo and we all know The Trickster (or whichever name you prefer to refer to him by) has an insatiable sweet tooth.
