In a story that is almost tit-for-tat with the company’s unveiling of PS2 emulation on the PlayStation 4 hardware, Sony has formally confirmed that Remote Play functionality will expand to PC and Mac in the near future.
Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide Studios boss, made the announcement via Twitter, revealing that a licensed application is now officially in development, though the executive didn’t allude to a timeline for release.
Some people asked if we plan to provide Remote Play function to PC, and yes, we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac. 😀

Streaming PS4 game data through a compatible Wi-Fi network, Remote Play proved to be a major selling point of the PlayStation Vita when the PlayStation 4 officially launched two years ago. And though news of Sony expanding the feature onto PC and Mac will surely have an impact on forecasts for the niche handheld, it lends the Japanese platform holder a service to rival that offered by Microsoft, which hosts console-to-PC integration via Windows 10.
Now that the cat is out of the bag for both PS2 emulation and Remote Play on PC/Mac, what will Sony have left in store for PlayStation Experience next week? Time will tell, but either way, we’ll keep you posted on this added PlayStation 4 functionality as news is released.
