Decorated Polish developer CD Projekt Red may be prepping to launch long-in-development new IP Cyberpunk 2077 much earlier than expected, after a report claimed that the sci-fi RPG could arrive late next year.
That’s contrary to previous statements from the studio itself, explaining that fans shouldn’t expect any further update on Cyberpunk 2077 until at least 2017, with the majority of next year set aside for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt‘s conclusive expansion Blood and Wine along with additional support for the critically-adorned RPG – now the crowned Game of the Year after last week’s The Game Awards 2015 event.
One thing’s for sure: Cyberpunk is beginning to occupy the vast majority of resources at the developer, with Lead Quest Designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz championing the new IP as “very ambitious” in a recent interview with GameSpot.
“We are focusing on Cyberpunk 2077. It is a very ambitious and big project, and we need all the people we can get to finish it. A lot of the people in the company are [working on it], and more and more are getting involved in it… most people from the company are involved with this.”
Considering that Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be “far, far bigger” than Wild Hunt, we can’t imagine that CD Projekt Red can perform such a quick turnover of the back of an equally massive RPG, but I suppose we’ll see.
