Ever since the Firestorm character first debuted on The Flash, fans have been asking when the villain Deathstorm will appear. Now, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has revealed to Entertainment Weekly some exciting new details about his return:

“We are beyond excited to have Robbie back on The Flash. You can’t keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, he’s back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm.”

That’s right, Robbie Amell is still playing Ronnie Raymond, just not the Ronnie Raymond that fans have come to know. Apparently, his Earth Two counterpart went down a much darker path. I guess this shouldn’t come as too much of a shock though, since it was recently revealed the Caitlin Snow is already Killer Frost in that universe, whom we will also see in an upcoming episode. The two still happen to be a couple over there, so it stands to reason that they will appear in the same episode, although that has not been expressly stated.

Fans of comic books may remember that medium’s iteration of Ronnie Raymond/Deathstorm was not someone who went down the wrong path. He was resurrected during the events of Blackest Night, becoming a member of the zombified Black Lantern Corps. Given the fact that an event as grandiose a Blackest Night may prove to be quite convoluted to the uninitiated, especially since many of the concepts featured in the story have not been introduced to the show, it is actually quite wise of the show’s creative minds to play the reinterpretation game and streamline the character.

While Jefferson Jackson will now function as the other half of the Firestrom Matrix with Professor Martin Stein on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, it’s important that we not rule out the return of Earth One’s Ronnie Raymond. After all, we never did see a body.

The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8:00 pm on The CW, with new episodes returning January 19.
