It was revealed yesterday that TNT has made the decision to pass on bringing a live-action Teen Titans series to their network. That came as a blow to fans who had been looking forward to seeing Nightwing and his fellow young heroes brought to life on the small screen, and while the show had been stuck in development hell quite a long time, it still came as a shock that TNT had passed on developing it.
So, why isn’t Titans happening? Well, TNT Chief Creative Officer Kevin Reilly has now shed some light on why exactly they decided that it wasn’t a good fit for the network:
“It wasn’t [the fact that we didn’t own the characters]. Akiva [Goldsman] is a talented guy, [but] the script just wasn’t there. There is an unbelievable glut of superhero things in the market right now and if you have a really good one, clearly people are up for it. But I just don’t think that there’s a need for one that, for me, at least on paper didn’t seem to be screaming to get made.”
They clearly weren’t impressed with what Goldsman delivered then, and that likely means we’re not going to see other networks rushing to pick Titans up instead of them. It could live on in some form of course, but with rumours of the Cyborg movie possibly incorporating the Teen Titans, there’s a chance that Warner Bros. will now save these characters for bigger and better things somewhere down the line.
