Frank Miller didn’t create Daredevil, but he’s widely hailed as the man responsible for turning things around for the Man Without Fear, and his influence on season one of Marvel and Netflix’s hit series was clear to see.
One character who was thought up by The Dark Knight Returns scribe, however, is Elektra, and he recently caused some controversy by stating that Elodie Yung’s version in the current TV show is not the real deal.
As you may or may not know, Marvel resurrected Elektra after Miller killed her off. This bothered the writer tremendously, as he was promised that she wouldn’t be used in any of their publications again. Ever since, Miller has maintained that neither the comic book nor live-action versions we’ve seen have been the “real” Elektra.
[zerg]Luckily, Daredevil co-showrunner Doug Petrie isn’t letting this negativity get him down as we near the season two premiere of the series. When asked about Miller’s comments, he had this to say:
“God bless him, it’s his prerogative. I’m a huge fan of what he did, so the [criticism] doesn’t go both ways. I wouldn’t say, ‘What does Frank Miller know?’ I’m so inspired by him and what he achieved and I’m trying to take it further and enrich her. She’s an empowered woman with her own agency, she’s nobody’s victim.”
Miller isn’t a fan of any of the big screen takes on Batman either, so it’s probably for the best that Petrie is taking his comments with a pinch of salt. Either way, with the first season of Daredevil breaking ratings records on Netflix, season two certainly won’t be hurt by the comic book writer’s negativity.
