Fox Confirms Prison Break Sequel Series

Fox's plans to drag out their most successful series for another go on the small screen continues today, as the network confirmed that Prison Break is returning. This isn't the first time we've heard of this development, with early chatter beginning last summer about a potential revival of the action drama that's set to bring back the show's two leading stars and a clutch of its crew members for a short-run event series.

Fox’s plans to drag out their most successful series for another go on the small screen continues today, as the network confirmed that Prison Break is returning. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of this development, with early chatter beginning last summer about a potential revival of the action drama that’s set to bring back the show’s two leading stars and a clutch of its crew members for a short-run event series.

The show revolved around Wentworth Miller’s character Michael Scofield, an engineer who drops himself into the prison where his brother, played by Dominic Purcell, has been wrongly incarcerated. His plan? Well, it’s all in the title really. While the press release issued at this time states that further details surrounding the story will be made public at a later time, last August Fox’s Dana Walden revealed a few plot hints:

“[It is] a bit of a sequel – it picks up several years after the end of the series. [It will provide] a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world. The brothers and some of the iconic characters will be back, and it will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience.”

The most important part of reviving the show is how it will address the big event at the end of the feature-length special The Final Break: Michael Scofield’s death. If Walden’s comments still stand, and the show is to act as a sequel series, that’s quite a hurdle to overcome. Apparently the idea is for the new show to take place prior to the events of that extended episode.

Set to co-star Sara Wayne Callies as Dr. Sara Tancredi and Robert Knepper as T-Bag, the Prison Break event series is expected to enter production this spring.
