New Seasons For Scream Queens And Empire Confirmed By Fox

When Scream Queens was good, it was exceptionally funny and eager to poke fun at its own ludicrousness. When it was bad? It let down all the brilliance which came before. Still, Fox is looking at responses to the show's first season in a positive light, as its now been officially renewed for a second season. When Scream Queens was good, it was exceptionally funny and eager to poke fun at its own ludicrousness. When it was bad? It let down all the brilliance which came before. Still, Fox is looking at responses to the show’s first season in a positive light, as it’s now been officially renewed for a second season.

In typical Chanel fashion, here’s the series’ official Twitter announcement:

Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who developed, executive produced and penned first season episodes, are all attached to usher in this new era of tongue-in-cheek silliness.

Way back when it was first announced, the show was designed to follow in the footsteps of Murphy’s other horror-tinged show, American Horror Story, and roll out new stories every season anthology-style. That’s still the case, as season two of Scream Queens is, according to the official press release, set in “a hospital, where some of the most fascinating and bizarre medical cases are under observation.”

Casting information will hit the web shortly, but it’s thought that some of the first season survivors will return. Here’s what Fox’s Dana Walden said today:

“Ryan intends to bring some of the actors from the first installment back. I believe they will be the same characters. We’ve just started having very preliminary conversations so not 100 percent sure exactly what their plans are, but the initial conversations were very much to return some of the characters.”

Walden’s colleague, and co-chairman at Fox Gary Newman added:

“It really hasn’t been decided who’s coming back and how many of them who will be playing their old characters or not. Ryan, Brad, and Ian are actually working right now on that. We’ll all be sitting together pretty soon and hearing their take on it. Our instinct is that at least a few of those characters will be back with the same actors playing the same roles, but it will be anthological in that there will be a time jump and it’ll be in a different setting.”

In addition, Fox took today to confirm that its smash hit series Empire has also been extended for another season. You can catch up with the Lyon family when Empire continues its second season on March 30 at 9pm. As Scream Queens upcoming season is still in development, expect casting news and story details ahead of a premiere confirmation.
