Now that we’ve had some time to pour over each and every frame of the latest trailer for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, we’ve just about got a handle on Task Force X and their malicious ways.
And much like all superhero trailers that hit the interwebs, the reveal of the full-length sizzle reel fast became an event for the DC faithful, with numerous breakdowns and remixes seeping online in the weeks that followed – but none quite like this. Produced by YouTube user Reuven White, the video above takes the running order glimpsed in last month’s snippet and reproduces the entire clip as though it existed in the DC animated Universe.
The result is really rather remarkable, splicing together footage from Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited and many more, giving those who perhaps aren’t as familiar with the source material an idea of how each character has evolved from comic page to the big screen. From Deadshot (Will Smith) to Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and every devious anti-hero in between, it’s a wonderful slice of fan service, and one that works all the more for keeping Queen’s inimitable “Bohemian Rhapsody” blaring in the background.
2016 is shaping up to be a defining year for the DC Expanded Universe, with Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice set to get the ball rolling next month. It’s here that budding fans will get their first look at Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and key players from the two-part Justice League ensemble.
But before that superhero team up comes to fruition, David Ayer will assemble Task Force X in all their villainous glory for Suicide Squad come August 6.
