Patrick Warburton Clinches Lemony Snicket Role In Netflix’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events

You wait months for casting news to emerge from Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events TV reboot and suddenly, two tidbits come along at once.

Granted, earlier today we learned that Neil Patrick Harris had closed a deal to don the cloak and scowl as the menacing Count Olaf, after the How I Met Your Mother star had been linked with a return to serialized television since the turn of the year. Now, though, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Patrick Warburton (Rules of Engagement) has been cast in the role of Lemony Snicket himself.

There, he’ll join Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes – on board as Violet and Klaus, respectively – two thirds of the Baudelaire family who are left with little choice but to share a roof with their devious uncle Olaf (Harris) once their parents pass away in a tragic and unfortunate accident.

Playing the part of the troubled writer-photographer, Warburton’s Lemony Snicket is a man “falsely accused of felonies and is continuously hunted by police and his enemies.” Jude Law originally lent his vocal chords to the role in the 2004 feature film.

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are bound for Count Olaf’s house and, subsequently, Netflix in due time. No official release date for A Series of Unfortunate Events has been disclosed at the time of writing. Mark Hudis will take the reins as showrunner though, and all signs currently point to a debut in late 2016 or early 2017.
