HBO Considers Game Of Thrones Season 6 The Best Yet, Not A Single Weak Episode

Perhaps more so than any other year before it, Game of Thrones season 6 has been cloaked in secrecy from the get-go and now, mere weeks away from HBO’s planned premiere, excitement is beginning to reach a fever-pitch.

Buoyed by an appropriately eerie marketing campaign – one which largely centers on Braavos’ Hall of Faces – there’s plenty of questions still to be answered going into season 6, though it’s a batch of episodes that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss consider to be the best yet.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Benioff and Dan Weiss even went so far as to suggest that, where prior seasons would have included a relatively weak episode, “this season there is not a weak episode.” Asked what stood out as a highlight, Benioff replied:

“The whole season. Dan and I talk about this a lot. This is not us trying to hype it. Usually there’s an episode or two we’re kind of nervous about, that didn’t turn out as well as we hoped. This season there is not a weak episode. We had great directors who knew what they were doing, paired with excellent [directors of photography]. We thought at the script stage it might be our strongest season. Then the episodes came in better than we hoped.

We’re always reluctant to say it’s ‘the best season yet’ because so much of that is in the eyes of the beholder. And Dan and I are so close to it that it’s impossible to be unbiased. But that’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest.”

HBO’s political cauldron serves up another twist to the tale when Game of Thrones season 6 premieres on April 24. To get up to speed with the happenings of Westeros, check out the show’s most recent – and bloody brilliant – trailer.
