Captain America: Civil War is a movie featuring a very long list of characters, but there are still many heroes and villains from the comic book version of that story who don’t make an appearance. One of those is Namor the Sub-Mariner, an anti-hero who played a key role in the final battle, arriving alongside an army of Atlanteans to provide Steve Rogers with some support.
Asked in a recent interview about which characters they’d like to see brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future, Captain America: Civil War writers Chris Markus and Steve McFeely had some interesting suggestions, with the latter specifically mentioning the ruler of Atlantis.
“Namor. He is kind of a jerk and has a chip on his shoulder and he is a king and lives underwater. The degree of difficulty is so high, though. ‘Cause it could be a great movie or it could be truly terrible.”
The rights to Namor have been a topic of debate for years now, with not even Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige seemingly able to shed much light on which studio the character calls home. It’s widely believed though that he’s back at Marvel, and depending on how well Aquaman pans out for Warner Bros., there has to be a chance we’ll see him on the big screen at some point in the near future.
Markus. meanwhile, had an even more unexpected suggestion, revealing his desire to adapt the popular (and very violent) Marvel Zombies series.
“I think it would be cool to make a Marvel Zombies movie but that would require a whole other wing or, at least, another dimension.”
That one is a little harder to imagine happening (especially as Marvel is owned by Disney, a studio unlikely to green light an R-Rated comic book movie), but stranger things have happened, and the success of The Walking Dead could very well help convince them to move forward with it.
