Everybody’s talking about the next Guillermo del Toro film. Well, in fairness, everybody is always talking about the next Guillermo del Toro film – whether he has one nearing production or not. There is just something about this particular filmmaker that inspires excitement and speculation, more so than most others. Perhaps it is his distinctive style and tone, or maybe it is the fact that – while he discusses a great many projects – very few actually find their way to the big screen with del Toro actually at the helm.
The speculation surrounding this new project is solidifying into something considerably more concrete than usual, however, with the recent news that Sally Hawkins and Octavia Spencer are on board for the adventure, and Michael Stuhlbarg (Steve Jobs) is set to join them. Now, it is said that Richard Jenkins is in talks to co-star.
In addition, an official description has now been provided.

With the project seemingly coming together quite quickly now, speculation is heating up. While this always brings a great margin of error – the notion of this movie involving a romance between a woman and a merman is persistent and increasingly likely.
If Richard Jenkins is confirmed to appear, then this would be one of the more remarkable casts of the year. Michael Stuhlbarg is a Golden Globe nominated actor, while Jenkins and Sally Hawkins are both Academy Award nominees. Octavia Spencer is, of course, an Academy Award winner, while Guillermo del Toro received his own Oscar nomination for writing Pan’s Labyrinth back in 2006. Del Toro is apparently writing this as-yet-officially-untitled project, in addition to taking on directorial duties – a combination that has often led to great results in the past. With an August shoot reportedly lined up, we will find out more about this tale sooner rather than later.
