First Look Promo For The Season Finale Of Supernatural

Although last night's episode of Supernatural could have easily functioned as a season finale, I am rather pleased that we have one more hour of reality shattering awesomeness before the summer hiatus. If next week's episode, appropriately titled "Alpha and Omega," can somehow top last night's team-up that included God, Lucifer, Crowley, Rowena, as well as angels and demons, then I think we may be in for the biggest swan song since, well, "Swan Song."

Something I’ve learned over the course of watching this show for the past eleven years is that the best laid plans don’t often come to fruition, especially this late in the season. Sure, last night’s group effort went belly up and God/Chuck is nearly dead, but I suspect that Sam and Dean will succeed in taking down Amara – only, there will be a catch.

The trailer hints that some kind of soul bomb will be used to defeat Amara and it may end up working. What I do think, however, is that the final blow will have some kind of unforeseen consequence and possibly unleash whatever horror will plague the Winchester boys in Season 12. I did say I have been a fan since the beginning, didn’t I?

A question the finale might not answer is what next season’s threat will be. I mean, it doesn’t necessarily have to, but it’s kind of cool to have an idea of what you will see in the fall. Sometimes we see angels fall from heaven or the infamous Demon Dean reveal, or we get something more cryptic like last year’s black fog only to find out The Darkness was a single entity known as Amara in the following season premiere.

For more information on what to expect next week, check out the official synopsis below:

God (guest star Rob Benedict) comes to a decision about Amara (guest star Emily Swallows) that has direct repercussions for Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles). Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (#1123). Original airdate 5/25/2016.

Supernatural airs Wednesday nights at 9:00 pm EST on The CW.
