Woman pays $300 at a Michelin-star restaurant in New York. For a jug of chocolate to wash her hands: ‘Actually nasty’

Has fine dining gone too far?

A woman was filmed washing her hands in melted chocolate at what appears to be a high-end restaurant in New York City, according to a TikTok video posted by user Nani, who goes by the handle @harlembrat. The video shows a waiter pouring the chocolate over the woman’s hands as she holds them above a large bowl at the table.

An on-screen caption in the video states, “Paid $300 just to wash my hands in chocolate.” Nani’s video caption identifies the restaurant as El Cielo NYC, tagging it with “#elcielo #nycrestaurants #finedining #elcielonyc” and adding the remark, “Worth every penny 😏”

In the video, the woman appears to rub the chocolate over her hands before bringing her fingers to her mouth to lick it off, smiling toward the camera. The video is accompanied by a male voice heard rapping over the footage throughout the clip.

The video opens with a waiter, dressed in a dark suit, standing beside the table. He appears to pour a dark, thick liquid, what looks like melted chocolate, from a small white pitcher onto the woman’s outstretched hands. The woman, who has long dark hair and is wearing a green top, holds her hands above a large, light brown bowl as the chocolate drips down. Similar dining experiences have recently gone viral in Chicago.

Nani tagged the video with the restaurant’s name, El Cielo NYC, and captioned the post “Worth every penny 😏” The on-screen text claims the experience cost $300, though the video does not provide further detail on how the price breaks down.

As the woman rubs the chocolate into her hands, she appears to maintain eye contact with the camera, seemingly amused by the experience. The clip ends with her still rubbing her chocolate-covered hands together.

Throughout the video, a man’s voice raps lyrics in the background, including the line, “She got a thing for Chanel vintage that dropped before she could speak English. Do you love me or love seeking attention? I mean, which one is it? You keep calling me.”

The video drew a large number of comments, many of which questioned the value of the experience. One user wrote, “That’s actually nasty 😫” One commenter suggested a cheaper alternative, writing, “you could hold some M&Ms and wait a few seconds..$1.50”

Other commenters said they could recreate the experience without paying. One person wrote, “I can do that at home for free,” while another said, “I wouldn’t do this if it was free.”

Several comments compared the activity to something children do without charge. One user wrote, “$300 to do what toddlers do for free lol.” Another commenter argued that the willingness to pay for the experience was tied to its cost, writing, “Yall will do ANYTHING as long as its expensive.” Similar pricing debates have recently surrounded other women’s dining choices, like a ‘girl dinner’ that sparked online criticism.

Another commenter suggested the activity could be a marketing tactic, writing, “restaurantes doing random stuff for more influencers.” The reaction in the comments section was largely centered on the price attached to the activity, with many users comparing it unfavorably to lower-cost or free alternatives.
