DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Executive Producer Discusses Season 2

After having definitively dealt with Vandal Savage on last night's season finale of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, it looks like The CW's elite team of superheroes will be faced with even greater threats come this fall. Our biggest teaser for what's to come came in the form of Rex Tyler/Hourman's arrival as he made a dramatic entrance and warned the team not to embark on their next mission, for it will certainly prove fatal.

After having definitively dealt with Vandal Savage on last night’s season finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, it looks like The CW’s elite team of superheroes will be faced with even greater threats come this fall. Our biggest teaser for what’s to come came in the form of Rex Tyler/Hourman’s arrival as he made a dramatic entrance and warned the team not to embark on their next mission, for it will certainly prove fatal.

Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to tease what we have to look forward to in Season 2, and the first thing he had to address was Hourman’s namedropping of the Justice Society of America.

“With his final words in the finale, he planted a pretty deep flag about where we’re headed in season two, which is not just introducing Hourman but introducing his teammates in the Justice Society of America. For comic book fans, everyone knows the Justice Society is really the precursor to the Justice League, so it’s a pretty big move in our DC universe here on TV.”

Yes, comic book fans are well aware that the JSA were a precursor to the Justice League, but this universe is a whole new ballgame. As of now, I’m left wondering when the JSA exists; were they around during World War II or are they dishing out justice in the future? If so, how do they inspire the JLA which pretty much already exists on The CW, only without a formal name? Furthermore, who will be Hourman’s teammates given that we have already seen Hawkman, Wildcat, and Black Canary on various series? Personally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Green Lantern/Alan Scott, Dr. Fate, and The Spectre.

Going on to speak about Season 2’s villains, Guggenheim remained cryptic:

“The season two big bad is actually not going to be the [alien race of] Thanagarians. It’s going to be something else entirely. All I’ll really say about the nemesis in season two is Vandal Savage looks like a walk in the park compared to what the Legends will be facing. This will be a much, much bigger threat. I’m going to leave it at that because when we do reveal it, it’s going to be pretty big. People will be asking, ‘Vandal who?’ once they get the full picture of what our team is up against. It’s going to be way bigger than what you can even imagine, I can guarantee it.”

That statement leaves a lot for fans to contemplate – names such as Imperiex, Time Trapper, Mongul and The Anti-Monitor are the ones swirling in my head right now. It’s probably safe to say it won’t be Darkseid considering he’s tied up in the movies, but then again, you never know.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursday nights at 8:00 pm EST on The CW.
