We’ve known for about a week now that Zoom will challenge The Fastest Man Alive to a race in the season two finale of The Flash, but the reason why hasn’t been clear. There’s been a lot of speculation, of course, and if you were one of the people who guessed that there’s something more to the villain’s plan than meets the eye, give yourself a pat on the back.

In the extended promo above, we learn that the device Zoom wants to race Barry in will convert the energy from the Speed Force into a wave which will destroy every other world in the Multiverse. Why exactly he would want to do that remains to be seen, and the brief synopsis for this episode of The Flash (titled “The Race of his Life”) sadly doesn’t shed any light on it:

After Zoom (guest star Teddy Sears) reveals his true plan, Barry (Grant Gustin) vows to do whatever it takes to stop him. Antonio Negret directed the episode written by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing.

There’s been a lot of talk that this instalment of The Flash is going to shake the show’s status quo up in a big way, something that the reveal of who the Man in the Iron Mask is will also no doubt play a part in. However, there’s sure to be at least a few other twists depending on how this race plays out, especially as the Scarlet Speedster also wants to avenge the death of his father.
