Majong-sanctioned PvP action is coming to Minecraft‘s console editions for free in June, courtesy of the new Battle mini-game. This new mode, which was inspired by the competitive activities of the members of Minecraft‘s huge community, will provide new ways to play and will allow gamers to get straight into the action.

Since coming up with improvised rules and new ways to play is now such a popular activity in Minecraft, the game’s developers have sought to channel some of that into dynamic new content. With their new mini-games, they’ll be helping players quickly and easily jump into competitions with tailor-made rulesets. This will mean you can have fun straight away without having to fuss around with manual countdowns, laboriously prep loot chests or keep score.

The first mini-game is called Battle, and it will include three maps upon arrival, allowing you to set up a competitive multiplayer fight for survival, where speed, strategy and sometimes pure luck will can see you emerge as the winner. Players in Battle matches use randomly-generated resources found in chests placed in specially-designed PvP maps and combat one another in a free-for-all death match until the final victor is determined.

Additional maps will be added over time and each new map pack will cost $2.99. Battle matches can be played with up to four players in split-screen and up to eight players online. There’s also an in-game matchmaking system to help you find other community players.

No definite release date is confirmed for Minecraft‘s first mini-game just yet, but stay tuned as we’ll bring more news to you as it’s announced.
